    4. I have seen your animation (Snow Globe) posted by DigiCel Flipbook facebook site, which I regularly follow. I can't deny that I was mesmerized by your animation! Then I checked out your other animations (as well as your comics) and I was very happy and delighted to find someone who truly cares about the classic traditions of animation and comic illustration. Particularly, your character Zingy has so much life! Because I have worked as an inbetweener during my animation studies, I know how much dedication is needed for this art form.
Thank you again for replying, and hopefully we will see the continuation of Snow Globe soon.
      Sincerely: Alexander Marengo

    5. Thank you! I will indeed continue the project of the Snow Globe. I'm so glad you enjoy it so far! I truly appreciate that. I admit, traditional animation is really where I'm best. I greatly miss the hand quality of animation in movies these days; my dream is to bring it back with good storytelling and good characters. Yes, Zingy indeed has a zest for life, which is why he is so much fun to draw and animate. I'm so glad you find him so entertaining. :) Stay alert for more comic pages and animation.

    6. Hi Alex, if you liked my Zekula comics, check out my other post called Rootabecka, a brothers grimm-esk fairytale I'm doing. :)

  3. I have checked out your Rootabecka story, and it is very cool! I have mostly found Deviantart pages, and it looks great already!
The colours are fantastic, just as here in the Zekula comics. What software did you use to crate your illustrations?

    1. Well, first I draw the pages by hand on paper, then I color them on Photoshop. I don't have those digital pads used to draw on. I like good old-fashioned paper anyway. Making everything digital causes art to lose it's soul. Anyway, that's what I do. :)

    2. Thank you for your response! I agree with you, too much digitalization erases the soul of the hand-made art.

    3. I'm curious, what animated films have touched you the most? Other than classic Disney, I've always been a fan of Don Bluth movies like American Tail and the Land Before Time. That's when animation really had a soul, at least that's what I think anyway. :)

    4. Yes, you really have to hand it to Don Bluth for taking that risk. I too push for better quality in animation and am hoping to bring back what I feel has been lost. I've been doing some more work on the Snow Globe; I'm very excited about finishing it and showing it. I must admit, An American Tail was the first Don Bluth film that really had an effect on me. There was something magical about watching Fievel try his hat on the first time and finding it's too big for him. It's a very sweet and innocent moment. The movie always makes me want to cry as well as laugh. What moments in Land Before Time really touched you as a kid?

  4. In Land Before Time the following scenes had a profound magical effect on me: Little Foot birth, when his mother gives him the star leaf, when he looses his mother and when he is roaming all alone and founds the star leaf, with the image of his mother inside the water drop. But the saddest part was when Little Foot licks the rock, mistaking his shadow for his mother! Nevertheless, the epic ending is also my favourite! The music of master composer James Horner and magic of animation really had a deep effect on me. In American Tail, my favourite parts are when they have the "somewhere out there" song, and the ending, when they are re-united. And as Fievel tried his hat... you are right, it was magical! Fievel is a very cute and honest character. I hope that in time I will develop my skills enough to animate him for at least a few seconds!

  5. Bambi was always my big favourite, in the '90-s my favourites were these films (in order of appreciation): 1st: Lion King, 2nd: Beauty and the Beast, 3rd: Little Mermaid, 4th: Tarzan (as a grown up however, I prefer Bambi to the Lion King). But I have mostly watched older Disney films, typically Bambi, Snow White, Lady and Tramp, and the films of the 1960's and 1970's. I am a kid of the '90-s as well, but in Europe we had a greater appreciation for older films, I don't know why.
Regarding the team building, recently I have discovered a site named 'Artella" where many animators are gathering. In case you build a team, send me an email, it would be great if I could work with you (naturally, I would do it for free, as I would be already happy to be part of an animation project). Let me know, in case you start something like this in the future.

  6. Yes, your animation is fantastic, exactly like a PRO with 20 years of experience§! :)
You learned this in an art school?
Making Zekula like Winnie the Pooh is the right approach, little short films that gradually will form a feature, or a series. And what a great series it would be!
About me: at the moment I am not as good animator as you are, but I can do inbetweening, and some minor characters. Hopefully in the future we will have a chance to do some joint project.

  7. I think your work is fantastic! As a Christian i'ts also lovely to see you acknowledging God in your work.
I'm studying animation at University. How did you start freelancing with animation? I'm really interested.
